Identify the exterior trim retainers using the fitting instructions for that fuel-cap design.

Release the original exterior trim from its mounting points without disturbing the internal filler closure.

Align and secure the replacement exterior trim on the same mounting points.

Open and close the fuel-filler flap to check clearance and that the exterior trim is retained securely.
